How to Cook Ham
Have you ever had that “gotta have ham” feeling? But didn’t know how to cook it? Well, here’s some tips on just that very thing…
If you are Roasting a Fully Cooked Smoked Ham, your oven temperature should be 325′ F.
A boneless Ham should be cooked in 1/2 cup of water and in a covered pan. The following weights and times apply:
- 1 1/2 – 2 pounds = 29 to 33 minutes per pound
- 3 – 4 pounds = 19 to 23 minutes per pound
- 6 – 8 pounds = 16 to 20 minutes per pound
- 9 – 11 pounds = 12 to 16 minutes per pound
A Bone-in Ham should be cooked in a covered pan, but have NO water added.
- 6 – 8 pounds = 13 to 17 minutes per pound
- 14 – 16 pounds = 11 to 14 minutes per pound
And we can’t forget the Canned Ham. You will want to cook a Canned Ham, uncovered and in the juices that it comes in.
- 1 1/2 – 2 pounds = 23 to 25 minutes per pound
- 3 pounds = 21 to 23 minutes per pound
- 5 pounds = 17 to 20 minutes per pound
You can also broil, and fry you ham…Cuts of a Fully Smoked Ham should be broiled or fried as follows:
- If you are making Kabobs, you will want to cut your pieces to 1 inch thick and broil for 7 to 8 minutes.
- If you are broiling ham slices, you will want to follow these guidelines: A 1/4 inch thick slice needs to be broiled for 6 to 7 minutes. A 1/2 inch thick slice of ham needs to be broiled for 8 to 10 minutes.
- If you would rather fry your ham slices, then these guidelines should be followed: 3 to 4 minutes for each 1/4 inch slice and 5 to 6 minutes for each 1/2 inch slice.
So there you have it…You feel like ham and now you know how to make it to perfection…
