Grilling Chicken
We love to grill out, but we weren’t always sure how long our chicken should cook. Hamburgers and hot dogs were easy, but we never could get it right with the chicken, until I found a grilling guide to help make our grilling easy.Do you like to grill chicken pieces (thighs, breast, etc)? If you have 3 to 3 1/2 pounds of chicken pieces, then you will want to grill them for about 35 to 40 minutes. The dark meats might take a little longer to grill.
Breast halves (bone-in) will grill for about 20 to 25 minutes for 2 1/2 to 3 pounds. And the boneless (1 1/4 pounds) will grill for about 15 to 20 minutes.
3 to 3 1/2 pounds of chicken wings will need to be grilled for 12 to 18 minutes.
For ground chicken or turkey patties that are about 1/2 inch thick, you will want to grill them for 20 to 30 minutes. This is for about 1 pound of ground meat.
Tenderloins (chicken fingers) can be grilled for about 20 to 30 minutes for 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of meat
Breast slices can be grilled for about 8 to 10 minutes for 1 to 1 1/2 pounds of meat.
BONUS: Rock Cornish Hens – if you grill 2 hens you will want to grill them for 30 to 40 minutes or until your meat thermometer reads 180′ F and the juices flow out clear. If you cut the hens in half it will make it easier to grill.
Tip: Make sure that when you cut into the thickest pieces of your chicken the juice runs clear. This is how you tell if your meat is done.
We tend to flip our chicken over for the last third of cooking. So if you you are grilling for 15 minutes then you will want to flip the chicken over the last 5 minutes.
