Food Stains and How to Remove Them from Your Clothes

Basics of cooking isn’t only about learning how to store or prepare food, it is also about how to remove food if they get on your washables.  After all, while you’re cooking, accidents do happen, and knowing how to take care of those situations, will not only keep you cooking, but it will keep your clothes from staining.Chocolate and cocoa – Your mixing up some chocolate icing and you get some on your shirt, pre-soak shirt in cold water.  Wash as normal.  BEFORE you dry, look at the shirt where the stain was and if you still see some of the stain, dab hydrogen peroxide on the shirt and wash again.

Coffee – Sponge cold water or soak immediately.  Wash using detergent and color safe bleach.

Egg – If the egg has dried, scrape with a dull blade.  Pre-soak in cold water for at least 30 minutes. Wash as normal

Fruit and fruit juices – Sponge with cold water immediately.  Pre-soak in cold water for at least 30 minutes.  Wash with detergent and color safe bleach.

Grease – User powder detergent and pour on grease spot to absorb as much of the grease as possible.  Pre-treat with detergent or use shampoo.  Let stand for 30 minutes or more, wash as normal

Milk, cream, ice cream – Pre-soak as soon as possible in cold water for at least 30 minutes.  Put detergent or shampoo on stain area and wash as normal.

Soft drinks – Sponge immediately with cold water.  Rub some detergent or shampoo on stained area and wash as normal.  Do NOT dry until you make sure the stain is gone

Tea – Soak in cold water as soon as possible.  Treat with detergent or shampoo and allow to set for 30 minutes or more, then wash as normal.
