Basics of Cooking – what to keep in your pantry
If you are new to cooking then you might need some basic information that will help get you through your first meal.
We all don’t start out as Chefs, but we with a few quick tips, we can at least let others believe we know our way around the kitchen.
Click on the tab at the top of the page for a list of basics to keep in your pantry. Keep it simple. Just because I have something listed, doesn’t mean you need it right this minute, but this is a list you will want to build up to.
The reason for keeping your pantry stocked is so you always know “What’s for Dinner?” and so that even on those days when you think you are too tired to make dinner, you will have something quick and easy to make.
Your list will consist of non-perishable foods, which are foods that won’t go bad too quick. Things like pasta and canned items are considered non-perishable.
Perishable foods are things that you usually have to keep in the refrigerator, such as: milk, cheese, meats, etc.
You can stock up on non-perishable items, but you will want to purchase perishable items as you need them.
One of the best tips I can give you is to make a list of some very simple recipes (that you like) and try to keep those ingredients on hand all the time. Don’t always go for the frozen pizza or ramen noodles. For one, they aren’t very healthy and for two, in about the same amount of time you CAN make something much better and tastier. It doesn’t have to be difficult, some of my best meals come from my easiest recipes.
